JAPAN AEROSPACE 2004 REPORT OPENING CEREMONY & DEMO FLIGHT

■Opening Ceremony

From 10:30 am on October 6, the Opening Ceremony was held in front of the Exhibition Hall's entrance. After the playing of the national anthem, Mr. Masamoto Tazaki, Chairman of The Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies, made an opening address representing the organizer, and Mr. Hachiro Okonogi, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Mr. Hiroshi Nakada, Mayor of Yokohama, gave speeches. Following the Ribbon-cutting ceremony, the exhibition got underway. A VIP Tour was then held to give honored dignitaries an outline of the exhibition. From noon, a reception was held attended by 730 people, at which a kagamiwari barrel-opening ceremony undertaken by 16 key individuals was held. This involved breaking the barrel lid of four sake barrels, which warmed up the site and created a party atmosphere.

■JA2004 Demo Flight

●Blue Impulse Demo Flight

To commemorate the opening of the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2004 (Japan Aerospace 2004), a splendid formation flight by the Blue Impulse (11th Fighter Squadron of the 4th Aircraft Wing of Air Self-Defense Force) was demonstrated over the exhibition site on October 6, the opening day of the exhibition. Along with the demonstration flights, commentary by Captain Kusanagi of the fighter squadron was broadcast.

●JA2004 Demo Flight

Demonstration flights by various aircraft were given after a 21-year absence. Many spectators gathered at the pedestrian deck on the bay side of the exhibition site and Rinko Park.
